Delhi Police on Friday uncovered a fake call centre operating from a Noida basement, arresting eight individuals linked to a large-scale credit card fraud.

The suspects allegedly contacted victims under the guise of increasing their credit card limits, then sent malicious links to steal sensitive account information.

"Upon sustained questioning, they disclosed that their telemarketers contacted individuals over the phone under the pretext of increasing their credit card limits, subsequently sending them a malicious link to collect their account details," police officials said.

The investigation began after a complainant reported losing Rs 6,000 to the scam on March 22, prompting Cyber Police Station (Outer) to act.

Authorities seized 24 mobile phones and a diary documenting fraudulent transactions totaling Rs 6.5 crore, highlighting the scam's extensive reach.

"The police have also seized 24 mobile phones and a diary with a log of Rs 6.5 crore of defrauded transactions," the police added.

This bust underscores ongoing challenges in combating sophisticated telemarketing frauds exploiting digital vulnerabilities.

The Delhi Police continue to investigate to identify further victims and dismantle the network behind the scam.
