Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the AI-powered Dust Portal 2.0 on Monday, a significant upgrade aimed at real-time monitoring of dust pollution from construction sites. The platform integrates 360-degree cameras, pollution sensors, and AI analytics to enhance compliance and enforcement across the city.1
"Till now, everything was being monitored manually. With the AI-enabled dust mitigation portal, 360-degree cameras and sensors installed at construction sites will send real-time alerts to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee," Gupta stated. The portal is designed to automate monitoring, replacing manual processes and providing instant alerts for violations.
The upgraded system will monitor all construction sites measuring 500 square yards or more, with approximately 800 active sites already equipped with the necessary technology. The platform will also facilitate the automatic issuance of compliance certificates and enforcement notices, streamlining the regulatory process.
According to Gupta, dust from construction activities contributes around 27% of Delhi's air pollution in summer and 15% in winter, accounting for nearly 66% of PM10 emissions. The portal aims to improve transparency by providing detailed construction information, enabling quicker action against violations.
"The Dust Portal 2.0 is an important step towards better monitoring and enforcement," said Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, emphasizing the need for effective governance in tackling pollution.36
The platform is now accessible as a mobile application, allowing for remote monitoring by officials and project proponents, further enhancing the city's efforts to combat air pollution.
