DATALAND, the world’s first museum dedicated to AI-generated art, opens Saturday in downtown Los Angeles, showcasing a groundbreaking exhibition titled “Machine Dreams: Rainforest”. This exhibition utilizes AI trained on ecological data to create immersive visual, audio, and sensory experiences inspired by rainforest ecosystems.1

Spanning 25,000 square feet across five galleries, DATALAND features installations such as an Infinity Room and a Data Pavilion animated by numerous projectors. Visitors can engage with interactive exhibits that allow them to explore the data behind the artworks. Additionally, they have the option to wear biosensing devices that measure physiological responses, shaping parts of the experience in real time.34

Co-founder Refik Anadol expressed his vision for the museum, stating, “For many years, we have dreamed of a place where audience and artwork could merge — a laboratory of imagination where we can explore burgeoning new artforms.” His partner, Efsun Erkilic, added, “We see DATALAND as a bridge between the visionaries who shaped our past and the creative possibilities of our future.” The museum is located at The Grand LA, 100 S. Grand Ave., in the Grand Avenue Cultural District, near notable institutions like The Broad and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Details about DATALAND’s first artist residency program, developed with Google Arts & Culture, will be announced next month.25789
