Sally-Anne Bowen, a 65-year-old former chemistry teacher, was found guilty of indecently assaulting two male pupils at Christ's College in Finchley during the late 1980s. The jury at Harrow Crown Court reached a majority verdict after deliberating for over six hours, convicting her on seven counts of indecent assault.1
One victim testified that he had sexual relations with Bowen approximately 20 to 30 times over several months, describing her as his girlfriend and expressing feelings of love. He kept their relationship secret, feeling compelled to “protect the teacher”, as she had insisted he not disclose their interactions.
The second complainant recounted being goaded into kissing Bowen in a cafe by other boys. Testimonies revealed that Bowen's behavior was often sexually provocative, with former pupils noting her attire and discussions in class that strayed into sexual topics. One former student recalled an incident where Bowen discussed a “sex manual” with students, while another described her revealing her underwear during class.
