CD Projekt Red to reveal new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past footage at Gamescom 2026

CD Projekt Red is set to reveal new footage of *The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past* at Gamescom 2026 during the Opening Night Live event on August 25, 2026. The show will begin at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 8pm CEST.¹²³

This expansion, which is the third for the acclaimed game, is scheduled for release in 2027, marking a significant wait since the original game launched 12 years ago and 11 years after the beloved second expansion, Blood and Wine. According to CD Projekt's joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, the decision to delay the release was made to ensure the best possible outcome for players: “We decided together with the development team, that the game will be launching in 2027, to be honest, to achieve the best possible result from the consumer standpoint.”⁶

*Songs of the Past* will feature players stepping back into the shoes of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for a standalone adventure set after the events of *The Witcher 3*. The expansion is also described as a prologue to the upcoming *The Witcher 4*, which will be led by Ciri. “It’s an expansion, let’s make it clear,” said Beitzel, emphasizing the continuity of quality players expect from the series.⁴

Additionally, the expansion will introduce more Gwent cards and CD Projekt is working on cross-platform mod support for *The Witcher 3*, which is expected to launch in the future. The franchise recently celebrated a milestone of 65 million copies sold.
