CD Projekt RED to launch remastered 'The Witcher 3' ahead of new expansion; free expansions for current owners, native Switch 2 version

CD Projekt RED is set to release a remastered version of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" on September 29, 2023, as part of a strategy to enhance player engagement ahead of a new expansion titled "Songs of the Past", scheduled for 2027.¹

The remaster will be available as a free upgrade for all existing owners on platforms including GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, a native version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is in the works.³

Current owners will also receive free access to the two existing expansions, which will be included in the remastered version. "This maps a great opportunity for people, who have perhaps only played the base game, to jump in with the improvements on the remaster update and get a whole lot of stuff for free before we ship the Songs of the Past," said Miles Toast, CD Projekt RED's level design lead.²⁴

Since its launch, "The Witcher 3" has sold over 65 million copies and won more than 250 Game of the Year awards, solidifying its status as one of the best-selling games of all time. The announcement was made during the Gamescom event, where a trailer for the remaster and a teaser for the upcoming expansion were showcased.
