Bukit Aman completes questioning of Malaysian pilot detained in Jakarta for drug smuggling; obtains key leads on syndicates, including KLIA security bypass and financial flows

Malaysian authorities have made significant progress in their investigation of a pilot detained in Jakarta for drug smuggling. Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) conducted interviews with the suspect, yielding crucial information about drug syndicates operating both locally and internationally.²

The pilot, arrested on July 28 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, was found with 70,114 ecstasy pills and methamphetamine in his luggage. Following his arrest, a team of 24 Bukit Aman officers recorded statements from him, with full cooperation from the Indonesian National Police (Polri).¹³⁴

Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, director of the NCID, noted that the interviews, initially scheduled for August 12 and 13, were extended to August 14 due to the valuable information obtained. “The suspect also cooperated well with the NCID investigation team,” he stated.

The investigation has revealed important leads regarding the syndicates involved, including methods of bypassing security at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the financial operations of the drug network. “Information would also be shared with drug enforcement agencies in the countries concerned to assist in tracking the international network,” Comm Hussein added.⁵⁶⁷

The NCID team was in Jakarta from August 11 to 15 to identify the source of the drugs and the suspect's connections to syndicates in Indonesia, marking a significant step in combating drug trafficking in the region.
