Bengaluru warns commuters: avoid Mekri Circle–Bellary Road corridor today to beat jams

Bengaluru is bracing for significant traffic congestion today as it hosts a large-scale environmental awareness event organized by the Karnataka State Government Pollution Control Board at Palace Grounds.

More than 5,000 students, citizens, and dignitaries are expected to attend, prompting authorities to implement strict traffic management measures.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory urging commuters to avoid the Mekri Circle–Bellary Road corridor, Jayamahal Road, and nearby arteries during peak hours to prevent bottlenecks.

To further ease traffic flow, several roads including Palace Road, MV Jayaram Road, Vasanthanagar Road, Jayamahal Road, C.V. Raman Road, Bellary Road, Ramanamaharshi Road, Nandidurga Road, and Tharalabalu Road have been declared 'No Parking' zones for the duration of the event.

Authorities emphasize public cooperation to ensure smooth movement and minimize inconvenience.

"We urge commuters not attending the event to avoid the affected corridors," said a Bengaluru Traffic Police spokesperson.

This proactive approach aims to manage the expected rush and maintain order during the celebration, which highlights environmental issues but also impacts daily travel for many residents.

Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time today.
