The Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line, spanning 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra, faces a delay in its launch due to pending safety clearances for its signalling system.
Originally scheduled to open by mid-2024, the corridor’s launch has been postponed to late July or even August, as the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certification remains pending despite completion of all statutory tests by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
"The primary reason for the delay lies in pending safety clearances for the line’s train signalling systems," officials confirmed.
This delay contrasts with the Purple Line, which recently experienced only a minor three-minute technical delay that was quickly resolved, allowing normal operations to resume.
"BMRCL has completed all required statutory tests," but the final safety certification is awaited, underscoring the importance of rigorous safety protocols before opening new metro corridors.
Authorities have expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured commuters that teams are working continuously to maintain efficient metro services.
The Yellow Line is a critical addition to Bengaluru’s metro network, expected to enhance connectivity between key areas and ease urban transit challenges once operational.
The delay highlights the challenges in urban infrastructure projects where safety remains paramount, even if it means pushing back anticipated launch dates.
Commuters and city planners alike await the clearance that will enable the Yellow Line to begin service, promising improved transit options in the city.
