Shafiqur Rahman, the opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, emphasized that relations with India must be founded on equality and mutual respect. He stated, “The people of this country will no longer accept anyone’s hegemony. They want relations with India based on friendship, mutual respect and equality,” highlighting the need for a balanced diplomatic approach.3
The visit's complications arose after Bangladesh demanded that India create “propitious” conditions for the trip, which included addressing issues related to the extradition of certain individuals.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has not provided updates on the situation, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stating, “I have nothing to say on this matter. If I have any updates, I will share them with you,” indicating a lack of clarity on the diplomatic front.2
The withdrawal of the initial email and the subsequent confusion have added to the uncertainty surrounding Rahman's visit, which was intended to strengthen bilateral ties and coincide with the upcoming BRICS summit in New Delhi.
