Bangalore University has officially confirmed plans to construct a
2.5-kilometer flyover connecting Mysuru Road and Ullala Main Road, aimed at alleviating the severe traffic congestion within its Jnanabharathi campus.
The university submitted the proposal to Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister
D.K. Shivakumar during his recent visit to the campus. This infrastructure project is expected to significantly reduce the daily traffic density that has become a major disruption for students and faculty.
Students have long complained about the
noise pollution and constant vehicle movement inside the campus, which has made it difficult to attend classes and concentrate on academic activities. The increased traffic has led to calls for imposing restrictions on public vehicles within the campus.
According to
Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, Minister of Higher Education, the flyover will pass through the Jnanabharathi campus, providing a direct route between Mysuru Road and Ullala Main Road, thereby diverting through-traffic away from the university grounds.
This flyover plan is seen as a crucial step towards ending the persistent traffic chaos that has plagued the university, improving the campus environment for students and staff alike.
“It has become an everyday struggle to take classes and also for students to concentrate due to the movement of vehicles. Noise pollution has increased causing disturbance to academic activities,” a university source noted, highlighting the urgent need for this infrastructure upgrade.
If implemented, the flyover could transform the campus experience by reducing congestion and noise, fostering a more conducive atmosphere for education and research.
