Burgenland State Criminal Police stated that five contaminated jars of baby food, marketed for infants, were seized before consumption. HiPP, based in Germany, expressed relief over the arrest and emphasized that they had acted quickly to avert potential harm by recalling all affected products sold in
SPAR supermarkets across Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
The recall affected
190-gram jars of baby food made from carrots and potatoes, and HiPP clarified that the jars left their facility in “perfect condition.” The company revealed this case of contamination is also tied to a possible
attempted extortion incident, indicating an extortionist had contacted them concerning the tainted jars.
HiPP’s actions included sweeping all affected products from their shelves to maintain consumer safety. Authorities continue to investigate potential further contamination risks and have urged vigilance regarding the issue.
