Jordan Salinas, a 35-year-old caregiver, returned fire at a gunman during a chaotic shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday. The shooter, Chad Williams, 24, killed three people and injured seven others before taking his own life.1239

Salinas, who had been training with firearms since a 2021 mass shooting in Boise, described his response as “automatic” and “mechanical”. He drew his semi-automatic pistol and fired back at Williams, who was shooting at customers and employees. “He did not like it when bullets started firing both ways,” Salinas recounted, emphasizing that he felt “no fear” during the confrontation.57

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks praised Salinas and an off-duty officer for their actions, stating, “We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties.” Sheriff Jack Johnson echoed this sentiment, calling them “true heroes in our community.”8

The attack left two victims in critical condition, while three others were stable and two were treated and released. Investigators are still working to determine Williams' motive, with police confirming he acted alone. “We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and the citizen,” Hicks added.

One of the deceased was an In-N-Out employee, prompting company owner Lynsi Snyder to express her grief, stating, “My heart is broken, my chest is heavy.” Salinas later urged focus on the victims and their families in a Facebook post.
