Alibaba's Qwen unveils preview of flagship AI model

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd has unveiled a preview of its flagship AI model, Qwen3.8 Max, which is described as one of the most powerful AI models available today, featuring 2.4 trillion parameters. The company claims it is second only to Anthropic PBC’s Fable 5.¹²⁵

Developers can access Qwen3.8 Max through Alibaba’s coding platforms, including Qoder. The company plans to make the model open-weight soon, which will expand access beyond the current preview release. This move comes shortly after Moonshot AI launched its own powerful model, Kimi K3, which boasts 2.8 trillion parameters and has been noted for its competitive performance against top offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI.⁴

The launch of Qwen3.8 Max is significant as it reflects Alibaba's commitment to advancing AI technology, especially in light of recent developments in the Chinese AI landscape.
