An Air India Express flight from Ranchi to Bengaluru was delayed by five hours on Sunday due to a mid-air medical emergency involving a passenger who experienced breathing difficulties. The incident occurred on flight IX 1239, which had arrived from Bengaluru.
Airport Director Vinod Kumar Singh reported that the passenger was stabilized and provided oxygen on board before the flight landed safely at Birsa Munda Airport around 8:55 am.3
Following the incident, the airline prioritized passenger safety and initiated necessary procedures for the aircraft's oxygen supply. Oxygen cylinders were flown in from Delhi to ensure the aircraft was cleared for departure only after fulfilling all safety protocols.
The return flight IX 1244, which was scheduled to depart at 8:55 am, eventually took off around 1:51 pm, five hours later than planned, after the oxygen cylinders were successfully arranged and delivered.
The airport management emphasized that the safety of passengers was paramount, leading to the rescheduling of the flight. The passenger who experienced the breathing difficulty was reported to be stable and went home after the incident.
