Instinct, an AI personal assistant startup, has raised $250 million in a Series B funding round, co-led by Benchmark and Index Ventures, valuing the company at $2.5 billion. This investment increases Instinct's total funding to approximately $350 million.123
Founded by Noah Shinn, a former researcher at Sierra, Instinct's product is designed to connect with users' applications and devices, managing tasks such as email, messaging, and calendar management. The assistant can automate complex workflows and follow up on unfinished conversations, aiming to take actions on behalf of users rather than just answering questions.
Despite its rapid growth, Instinct faces challenges regarding privacy and data security. Early users have expressed concerns about the amount of personal information the service can access and retain, as the assistant requires access to emails and online accounts to function effectively. Shinn acknowledged these concerns, stating that the team is working to address users' cybersecurity issues.
Instinct's valuation has surged since its earlier Series A round, which valued the company at over $500 million. The startup, officially known as Spear Street Technology Inc., entered the consumer AI market in February with an invite-only private beta program, and access remains limited as the company scales its computing capacity.45
“The round brings Instinct's total funding to about $350 million, with earlier backing from Conviction Partners and Greenoaks. Founder Noah Shinn, a former Sierra researcher, says one early adopter used the assistant to buy a house, while the company plans to spend on computing infrastructure.”
