The LFB has reported that a large amount of smoke is being generated, leading to advisories for local residents to keep their doors and windows closed. A spokesperson for the LFB stated, “London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the blaze on Landman Way, in Deptford, involves about 50 tonnes of household waste stored at a waste facility.”
Station Commander Duncan Rees, speaking from the scene, noted, “Crews are working hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.” Firefighters are utilizing a 32m ladder and a 64m ladder to tackle the flames from above, indicating the scale of the operation.6
The incident has been classified as a “protracted incident”, with crews expected to work overnight to manage the situation. The LFB received the first of over 160 calls reporting the fire at 19:59, and crews from East Greenwich, Old Kent Road, Deptford, and surrounding fire stations have been dispatched to assist.7
