A car blocked the Cornwall rail line after a motorist lost control and careered through fencing onto the tracks, leading to significant disruption. The incident occurred around 6 AM, with Great Western Railway (GWR) confirming that all train services between St Erth and St Ives were suspended.⁴

According to Craig Munday, mobile operations manager at Network Rail, the car was removed by 3 PM, and services were expected to resume shortly thereafter. He stated, "Unfortunately due to a car incurring on the branch line... a motorist lost control of their car and careered through the fencing and onto the railway line."

Passengers faced delays throughout the day, with GWR warning of significant disruption until at least 2:30 PM. Replacement coaches were unavailable, although a limited number of taxis were operating between St Erth and St Ives, not adhering to a fixed timetable.

British Transport Police confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the recovery operation was ongoing. GWR noted that the line was blocked due to a road vehicle, and disruption was expected to last until 4:30 PM on July 3. The incident highlights the challenges faced by rail services in the region, particularly when unexpected events disrupt operations.

In a video shared on X, Munday emphasized that Network Rail was "doing all we can to get the railway back up and running."

Initial reports of the incident emerged at around 6 AM, according to traffic monitoring site, Inrix. GWR confirmed just before 3 PM that the vehicle had been removed, and services were set to restart at 3:19 PM from St Erth to St Ives and 3:34 PM from St Ives to St Erth.³
