According to Craig Munday, mobile operations manager at Network Rail, the car was removed by 3 PM, and services were expected to resume shortly thereafter. He stated, "Unfortunately due to a car incurring on the branch line... a motorist lost control of their car and careered through the fencing and onto the railway line."

Passengers faced delays throughout the day, with GWR warning of significant disruption until at least 2:30 PM. Replacement coaches were unavailable, although a limited number of taxis were operating between St Erth and St Ives, not adhering to a fixed timetable.

British Transport Police confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the recovery operation was ongoing. GWR noted that the line was blocked due to a road vehicle, and disruption was expected to last until 4:30 PM on July 3.
