Indian cinema crosses Rs. 5,000 crore worldwide by May 2025, led by Bollywood

Indian cinema has achieved a significant milestone by crossing Rs. 5,000 crore in worldwide box office collections within the first five months of 2025.

Bollywood, the Hindi film industry, leads the charge with collections reaching Rs. 2,008 crore, showcasing its dominant position in the global market.

Following Bollywood, Kollywood has secured the second spot with approximately Rs. 1,196 crore in earnings, closely trailed by Tollywood at around Rs. 1,181 crore.

Mollywood, representing Malayalam cinema, though the smallest among the four major industries, has made a notable impact by grossing about Rs. 879 crore worldwide.

This robust performance across regional cinemas highlights the expanding global footprint of Indian films, driven by diverse linguistic and cultural narratives.

"In just the first five months of 2025, Indian films have collectively grossed over Rs. 5,000 crore worldwide," industry analysts noted, emphasizing the growing international appeal.

The data underscores Bollywood's continued dominance but also signals the rising prominence of South Indian film industries in the global arena.

As Indian cinema continues to diversify and innovate, these figures suggest a promising trajectory for the industry’s worldwide growth and influence.
