Mukul had been battling health issues and was admitted to a Delhi hospital for about 8-10 days before his death. Close friend Vindu mentioned Mukul's loneliness following the deaths of his parents, highlighting his close family ties.

His last film appearance was in the Hindi film Anth The End, and he was set to make a comeback with Son of Sardaar, a project he unfortunately did not live to see released.
