HSBC is launching a Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore in the second half of 2026, with plans to recruit over 100 AI specialists. The center aims to develop scalable AI capabilities across its global network, enhancing customer experiences through AI-driven insights, treasury solutions, and digital payments.24

Georges Elhedery, Group CEO of HSBC, stated, “The new AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore will help drive our global AI vision – to empower our colleagues to use AI to create a personalised experience for each customer, deliver it safely, in real time and at scale, while keeping human judgement, decision-making and accountability at the core.”5

The CoE will initially focus on three high-impact areas: enhancing customer wealth journey conversations, introducing agentic treasury solutions, and developing AI-enabled digital payments capabilities. HSBC anticipates that these innovations will lead to hundreds of millions of pounds in revenue and efficiency gains.

The bank is also investing in Singapore’s innovation ecosystem, collaborating with academic institutions and government bodies to build a sustainable AI talent pipeline. This dual focus aims to advance technical capability while ensuring responsible deployment of AI technologies.

HSBC has emphasized the importance of maintaining strong governance frameworks and human oversight in its AI initiatives, ensuring that technology enhances rather than replaces human decision-making.

The bank already operates around 600 applications on Google Cloud and plans to add more than 200 AI use cases in the next two years, targeting payments, wealth, and treasury sectors.3
