Devices must also provide at least five OS upgrades and six years of quarterly security updates. Notably, many existing models, such as the Samsung Galaxy S25, which retails for over $1500, do not qualify for the upgrade.

“Google's new Gemini Intelligence features are only available on Android devices with the most advanced capabilities and spec requirements,” a company representative stated.

This presents a dilemma for hundreds of millions of Android users, some of whom may feel left behind. “If you want Google’s latest upgrade, anything other than a 2026 phone won’t be good enough,” noted experts, emphasizing the limited options for current owners.

In a bold move, Galaxy S26 series and Pixel 10 series devices will receive the Gemini Intelligence features 'this summer', suggesting a new wave of devices is on the horizon.
