- Venture capital firm Elevation Capital has closed its ninth India-focused fund at $500 million, reinforcing its commitment to early-stage investing and placing artificial intelligence at the center of its growth thesis for the coming decade.
- The new vehicle, Fund IX, will focus primarily on backing Seed and Series A startups, particularly those building on the application layer of artificial intelligence.
- Elevation Capital's total deployable capital now stands at $900 million across different stages of the startup lifecycle, including its recently launched $400 million late-stage investment vehicle.
- The firm believes that AI-native startups are a bright spot in the venture ecosystem, attracting investor attention even as funding is cautious in other segments.
- Elevation Capital aims to support founders throughout their growth journey while making a big bet on artificial intelligence as the next big driver of innovation and value creation in the Indian startup ecosystem.
Elevation Capital has launched its ninth fund at $500 million, targeting early-stage startups, especially in artificial intelligence. This fund, known as Fund IX, will focus on seed and Series A investments, marking a strategic shift back to early-stage roots after the previous $670 million Fund VIII.12347

The firm’s Co-Managing Partner Mukul Arora emphasized a barbell approach to investing, where Fund IX will concentrate on early-stage opportunities while a separate $400 million late-stage vehicle will support established companies. Together, these funds provide $900 million in deployable capital across the startup lifecycle.5

Arora stated, “We believe the next decade will be India's golden decade.” The firm is particularly optimistic about the potential of AI-native startups to solve complex business and consumer problems, leveraging India's rich pool of engineering talent.6

Elevation Capital plans to maintain its pace of 15-18 investments annually, focusing on sectors like healthcare, financial services, and education. The firm has historically backed successful companies such as Paytm and Swiggy, positioning itself as a key player in India's evolving venture landscape.

The fund's launch comes amid a growing investor appetite for AI startups, with Indian AI companies raising $676 million in the first half of 2026, a significant increase from the previous year.

As the venture capital environment becomes more selective, Elevation Capital's focus on early-stage investments reflects a recalibration of investor appetite towards application-layer AI and deep technology sectors.
“The fund will target seed and Series A startups building AI-native products. Indian AI startups raised $676 million in H1 2026, a fourfold increase from $162 million a year earlier, as Elevation also manages a $400 million late-stage vehicle for a total of $900 million in deployable capital.”
