Bengaluru crosses 1 million tech pros, leads Asia-Pacific tech talent hubs

Bengaluru has firmly established itself as a leading global technology hub, crossing the significant milestone of one million tech professionals and ranking as the largest tech talent center in the Asia-Pacific region alongside Beijing and Shanghai.

This growth is fueled by a combination of factors including a 12% increase in tech employment between 2018 and 2023, a strong demographic base with 75.5% of the population in working age, and a 2.4% growth in this demographic from 2019 to 2024. The city’s robust academic ecosystem, featuring institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and top engineering colleges, supports a steady pipeline of skilled talent.

Bengaluru’s thriving startup ecosystem is increasingly focused on artificial intelligence (AI), with 34 of its $3.3 billion venture capital deals in 2024 dedicated to AI. This strategic emphasis positions the city as a key player in global AI innovation.

Additionally, the presence of a dense network of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) further strengthens Bengaluru’s tech infrastructure and talent development.

“Bengaluru’s rise is attributed to its strong demographic foundation, robust academic institutions, flourishing startup ecosystem, and a growing focus on artificial intelligence,” the CBRE Global Tech Talent Guidebook 2025 notes.

With these dynamics, Bengaluru not only leads Asia-Pacific tech talent hubs but also competes robustly on the global stage, reflecting its evolution into a top-tier technology city.
