Apple's $250 million settlement resolves claims from a class-action lawsuit alleging the company misled consumers about the availability of Siri's AI features. The settlement affects approximately
36 million devices sold in the U.S. between June 2024 and March 2025, offering payments between
$25 and $95 to eligible buyers.
According to the lawsuit, Apple promoted AI capabilities that were not yet available and might not materialize for years. Plaintiffs claimed the company falsely advertised the
AI-powered Siri as a breakthrough innovation, stating that the iPhone 16 was delivered without the promised features.
“Apple promoted AI capabilities that did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not exist for two or more years,” declared the lawsuit, which was filed by Clarkson Law Firm. The
Better Business Bureau’s National Advertising Division concluded that Apple’s advertising misled consumers by suggesting the new Siri was “available now.”
As part of the agreement, which does not require Apple to admit wrongdoing, a court hearing for approval of the settlement is scheduled for
17 June. This highly publicized settlement emphasizes the importance of transparency in advertising, especially concerning cutting-edge technology that influences consumer trust.
“We are proud to secure a historic settlement on behalf of consumers who should feel confident and protected,” stated Ryan Clarkson, the attorney representing the plaintiffs. The settlement provides a crucial path for accountability in tech marketing practices.
