- Accel has raised a $550 million early-stage fund for India as part of a $3.5 billion global fundraise across four new funds.
- This new fund is Accel's ninth early-stage fund for the country.
- The fund was oversubscribed and closed within weeks, 19 months after its last India fund.
- Accel's India corpus now totals $1.2 billion over the past 18 months.
- Accel's fundraising comes as several global venture firms are renewing their focus on India despite a broader slowdown in venture capital.
- Accel's investment philosophy remains rooted in backing founders early rather than chasing later-stage trends.
Accel has closed a new $550 million India fund, marking its ninth early-stage fund for the country and part of a coordinated $3.5 billion global fundraising effort.
The fund, which targets pre-seed to Series A startups across sectors like AI, consumer, fintech, and manufacturing, was significantly oversubscribed and closed within weeks.
Accel has raised $1.2 billion for India over the past 18 months, indicating strong investor confidence in the Indian startup ecosystem.
Despite having more than 50% of its previous fund yet to be deployed, Accel is optimistic about the future, with about $900 million in dry powder available for investment in India.

“There is a significant amount of money available in the market for early-stage investing in the categories we have always invested in — AI, consumer, fintech, and now advanced manufacturing, and deep tech,” said Shekhar Kirani, a partner at Accel.
The firm plans to focus on AI applications and infrastructure, believing that artificial intelligence is becoming a horizontal technology that underpins various sectors.
“The early movers have been on the LLM [large language model] side… but there is a significant opportunity in the application layer,” noted Prayank Swaroop, another partner at Accel.
Accel expects to begin deploying capital from the new fund in 2027, while continuing to invest from its previous fund until then.
“The new fund is Accel's ninth early-stage vehicle for India, and it was oversubscribed, closing within weeks. Accel still has over 55% of its previous India fund undeployed, and it expects to begin deploying the new capital in 2027.”
